Meet The Candidate

Picture
I am a regular citizen and a candidate for state representative in Delaware's 32nd district.  I am a surgical nurse, but in 2010 I decided that something needed to be done about our current crop of legislators, so I took on a hobby as an amateur politician.  First and foremost I am a husband and the father of three young children.  I want the best for them and their future.  I want better schools and safer streets for my family and all of our families.  I can’t just sit by while our so called representatives destroy our once great State and Nation.  Join me, and together we can save our future for the next generation.

I want to fight the abusive tax increases that our incumbent has voted for in every instance.  Some of these taxes are easily seen and felt as direct increases on things we buy.  Others are invisible because they are levied on the businesses and services we need, to be passed on to us as higher prices driven by the higher cost of doing business.  A recent example of our incumbent's irresponsibility and job crushing tendencies, is HOUSE BILL NO. 180.  This bill, targeting apprentice and journeyman electricians.  Electricians in our local community have told me this law, both co-sponsored and voted for by our incumbent state representative, will put experienced people in these fields out of work, create barriers to young workers entering this field, and will result in higher costs for electrical work as these costs are passed on to consumers.

We need to find ways to lower the cost of living for our citizens.  I believe the State should look to reduce the gas tax to ease some of the pain that we feel every day at the pump.  The price of gasoline is a major factor in all of our lives and has a huge impact on our purchasing abilities in other areas.  If we can bring down these and other energy costs, we will all have more disposable income to invest in our local economy.  We need to re-evaluate the massive investments that have been and are continuing to be made in “Green Energy” ventures with our tax dollars.  When you look at the massive failures of Fisker and Bloom Energy, it is very difficult to justify continued investment of public monies into these types of ventures.  In these difficult times our government at all levels needs to be much better stewards of “our money” and provide better public trust.

Crime levels throughout Delaware are on the rise.  As the economic downturn continues, home invasions have been going up, making many of our citizens feel unsafe in a place that they should be most at ease.  SENATE BILL NO. 161, seeks to classify home invasion as a class A felony, carrying a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.  A person convicted of the crime for a second time would receive a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.  This is a bipartisan measure that will make one think twice before entering another’s home, and make sure the people who don't think a third time can never do it again.  It is a glowing example of putting the public good ahead of partisan politics.  In contrast, HOUSE BILL NO. 277, is a watered down, partisan bill co-sponsored by the incumbent.  This bill makes “home invasion” a Class B Felony, increasing jail time from the current two years to only four years, and six years for a second offense.  With offenders back on the street in no time for good behavior, their victims are once again exposed to retribution.  Not only do we need to prevent these criminals from threatening our communities again, we also need to ensure that our police agencies are properly staffed, trained, and focused on getting the violence under control and protecting the individual rights of all our citizens.

These issues are important to me, and they're important to all of Delaware's residents regardless of their party affiliation.  The people of the 32nd District want a reasonable, accountable, and efficient government that is able to keep them safe.  They do not want a careless, corrupt, and partisan government that plays political games with their lives and livelihoods.  It has been my great privilege to engage in the electoral process and begin the difficult task of working to change the way Dover does business.  I hope that I can count on the support of our community and others in our state to help me make that change on November 6th.
